Howard and Associates was hired to design a multipurpose building for recreational and youth activities. Located next to Bethany Park, the facility is used by church members and the community of Bethany, Oklahoma. The new building is a pre-engineered metal building sub-structure.
The design includes two basketball courts with bleachers, youth auditorium, conference space, game area, youth offices, lockers, concessions, storage and a large two story open atrium. H&A designed the building using a series of stepped boxed forms intercepted by sloping metal roofs and flat roofs. Sky lights were strategically place in the boxed forms. The architectural shape led to the building being called The Cube. Inside the exterior architectural shapes translate into exposed stepped ceiling forms. A continuous glass viewing wall separates the basketball courts from the lobby atrium.
The finishes inside the building include wood flooring on the basketball courts, stained concrete flooring and colorful painted walls to accentuate the boxed stepped forms in the atrium. The facility is designed for two future basketball courts. A large outdoor patio plaza is incorporated into the design.
